What is a breast lift cosmetic surgery (Mastopexy)?
There are several types of breast lift procedures that will determine the extent of your scars:
The first type is the one that can lift the breasts with the use of implants. The scars are usually the same as the breast augmentation scar, which is a 4-5 cm scar at the edge of areola. That is called Augmentation Mastopexy.
The second type is when the incision is completely around the areola. That is called Periareola Mastopexy. The scar heals very well because it is at the edge of the discoloration of the areola.
The third type is where the incision is located around the areola, and there is a vertical 5 cm (approximately 2 inch) scar that goes from the lower portion of the areola to the fold of the breast. This is called Extended Periareola Mastopexy.
The last type is where a scar in the fold of the breast gets added to the extended Periareola Mastopexy scar. This is called a Traditional Mastopexy.
Dr. Movagharnia has been trying to be innovative to give less scar on certain Ptosis which requires Traditional Mastopexy scar. He has eliminated the 5 cm vertical scar for many patients and they have been pleased with the outcome. He calls this a Modified Traditional Mastopexy scar.
When should implants be used with a breast lift?
If patients are unhappy with their size, implants can be inserted in conjunction with a breast lift. When both procedures are done together, not only are breasts firmer but also lifted to the original youthful contour.
How long is the breast lift plastic surgery recovery?
Patients must avoid heavy lifting for two to four weeks with no exercising for 6 weeks. Postoperatively everyone must wear a support bra to prevent gravity pulling the breasts down again.
